A cuvette is a small tube of circular or square cross-section, closed at one end, made of plastic, glass or quartz glass (for UV light). It is designed for use in spectroscopic experiments. The best cuvettes are clean, transparent, without impurities and damage that can affect spectroscopic measurements. The cuvette can be open at the top or closed with a stopper. Parafilm can also be used to close it. Disposable plastic cuvettes are often used in rapid spectroscopic tests, where speed is more important than high precision. Glass cuvettes are used in the area above 400nm (visible area). Quartz cuvettes are intended for work in the UV region.
